XVII GAMES OF THE SMALL STATES OF EUROPE: SHOOTING COMPETITIONS DETERMINE THE FIRST WINNERS

Asgeir Sigurgeirsson from Iceland won the first gold medal of the shooting competitions winning the 10m Air Pistol Men with a score of 231.1 points. The runner-up in this event was Joe Dondelinger from Luxembourg. Boris Jeremenko from Monaco finished on the third place.

Panagiota Charalampous from Cyprus triumphed in 10m Air Pistol Women with 235.4 points. Eleanor Bezzina from Malta took the silver, while Luxembourg’s Catheline Dessoy won the bronze.

In Shotgun Manuel Mancini from San Marino prevailed with 43 points in Trap Men. Francis Pace from Malta was second and Gian Marco Berti, also from San Marino, finished third.

Shooting is part of the XVII Games of the Small States of Europe that were officially inaugurated on Monday, May 29, in San Marino. Athletes from Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and the host-country compete for the medals in 10m Air Pistol and 10m Air Rifle (Men and Women) as well as in Trap, Skeet and Double Trap.

Vladimir Lisin, President of the European Shooting Confederation, was officially invited by the NOC of San Marino to attend the Games. In gave him another chance to meet several leaders of the Olympic Movement - among them the IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach, the IOC Deputy Director General Pere Miro, the IOC Member Mario Pescante, the Acting President of the European Olympic Committees Janez Kocijancic, the President of the CONI Giovanni Malago, the President of the Cyrpus NOC Dinos Michaelidis - and to discuss with them the future of the shooting sport.

Special importance had friendly meetings with the Presidents of the ESC Member Federations from San Marino, Italy and Iceland.
